If you look at the image above, the right hand side shows a standard image, but the left shows (or simulates) how a .gif image may print. For very small images in print, you may get away with it, but get into the practice of using .tiff images when designing for printed material.
Now the pdf shows up fine on screen, but if I print it with my Canon LBP5050 there are all sorts of boxes showing up. Darker boxes around the title (PC.DOC), around the laptop in the first page and so on. The image files I used are all cmyk photoshop files with transparent background.

Images printing with grey background – Adobe Indesign Macintosh. Using IDCS2 4.0.4 on a G4 10.4.8. I’m printing a file I’ve printed several times before without incident, I take a week off of work, come back and print it and now all the images have a grey background.

The print dialog should then offer “Print as Image” as an option. (This actually DOES seem to work. Any complaints should be directed at Adobe.) If you look at the image above, the right hand side shows a standard image, but the left shows (or simulates) how a .gif image may print. For very small images in print, you may get away with it, but get into the practice of using .tiff images when designing for printed material.

Now the pdf shows up fine on screen, but if I print it with my Canon LBP5050 there are all sorts of boxes showing up. Darker boxes around the title (PC.DOC), around the laptop in the first page and so on. The image files I used are all cmyk photoshop files with transparent background.

In Firefox you would need to go into “Page Setup” and turn on print background colours and images. Otherwise backgrounds won’t get printed and white text on a white background would be invisible
